“Offering a full-service, modern, and convenient stand-alone branch to new and existing members who work and reside along the Highway 280 corridor, south of the I-459, is a dream come true,” stated Joe McGee, President/CEO of Legacy. “We have waited a long time to find the right property and location, and we are extremely fortunate to secure a former bank facility at exactly the right location,” continued Mr. McGee.
The lobby of the 4,000-square foot, new branch will be renovated and upgraded to create an enhanced, concierge-style banking experience. Staff members will greet the members and escort them to transaction services at two teller pods or to loan services in three offices. The lobby also will offer a coffee lounge with high-top tables, a private waiting area, a community/conference room, and safe deposit boxes. The drive-up lanes will be expanded from the single lane presently offered at the Greystone branch to two banking lanes, plus an ATM lane. The exterior of the building will be improved with new signage and landscaping.
Today, Legacy Community Federal Credit Union has eight branches, with more than $445 million in assets, and offers membership to anyone who works, worships or attends school in Jefferson, Shelby, Blount, St. Clair, Walker, Chilton, and Bibb counties. Legacy opened its doors as University Credit Union in 1955 to serve the UAB community. After serving the education and healthcare industries for more than 50 years, Legacy expanded its field of membership to include the Greater Birmingham Metropolitan Area and changed its name to Legacy Community Federal Credit Union in 2006.
